Biopolymer and Polymer Analysis

The molar mass distribution is an important characteristic of polymeric materials. However, oftentimes thermal and mechanical properties as well as the chemical composition of (bio) polymers are of great interest. With the methods available at Fraunhofer IGB, polymeric materials can be comprehensively characterized with regard to the respective application.

Infrared Spectroscopy and Microscopy (FT-IR)

Raman Spectroscopy and Microscopy

Tensile, Compression and Flexure Tests

Material testing machine e.g. for the determination of breaking load and modulus of elasticity.

Simultaneous Thermoanalysis (STA)

The STA is a combination of the methods Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetry (TG). This enables simultaneous measurement of energetic effects and mass changes on one and the same sample.

Differential Scanning Calorimetry

This method determines the amount of heat being applied or generated during the physical or chemical transformation of a substance.

Thermogravimetry

Thermogravimetry (TG) measures the mass or change in mass of a sample in dependence of temperature and/or time. Changes in mass occur during evaporation, decomposition, chemical reactions, magnetic or electrical transformations.

Gel Permeation Chromatography

Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is a standard method for determining molar mass distributions in polymer samples.
