Bailer, Susanne Prof. Dr. sc. nat.

Susanne Bailer studied biology at the Universities of Ulm and Freiburg. In 1990, she obtained her doctorate and after that in 2005 she habilitated at the Saarland University, Homburg in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Due to the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, she joined Fraunhofer IGB in Stuttgart in 2012 as group manager “Infection Biology and Array Technology”. Since 2019 she has led the Innovation Field “Virus-based Technologies”.

In 2013, Bailer habilitated as a private lecturer in Stuttgart and took over the lead of the Biological-Medical Interfaces group at the Institute of Interfacial Process Engineering and Plasma Technology IGVP. In 2017, she was appointed as an adjunct professor at the University of Stuttgart.

Together with her university research group, Susanne Bailer studies elementary mechanisms of the infection biology of herpes viruses. Thereby, her gained findings enable a seamless transition to the application-oriented research at Fraunhofer IGB.

Here, the scientist’s research focus is on the development of innovative virus-based therapies and technologies as well as technologies for the diagnosis of infectious agents.

Additionally, Bailer leads the activities in the Health Alliance area of the association Biointelligence Competence Center.
