Press and Media

Press releases and more for journalists, editors, media

Research directly influences our lives, and science can only carry out its work with the acceptance of the public. We therefore regularly inform the media on current and significant research results. You are welcome to print the texts of our press informations charge free, just as the pictures in print quality. The contact persons are pleased to give you more information.

In addition, you are welcome to use further pictures, film material and podcasts from our media library at the IGB website's newsroom for your reporting on television, radio and the Internet.

  • After five months of construction the rapeseed pilot plant was successfully put into operation at the end of April 2019. Together with the project partners B + B Engineering and AVA, a plant for breaking up the seed grains with subsequent separation of the components shells and core material in a fluidized bed was laid out and set up at Fraunhofer CBP. In continuous operation, a processing of up to 250 kg / h can be realized.

  • Chemicals from renewable raw materials / 2018

    Producing everyday products with fungi

    Research News / November 02, 2018

Most detergents, cosmetics, and clothes, to name just a few products, are manufactured using petroleum, making such everyday items anything but eco-friendly. It is now possible to produce the bio-based and CO2-neutral basic chemicals for such articles with the help of fungi. Fraunhofer research teams are developing fermentation techniques and manufacturing processes to produce them on an industrial scale.

  • Fraunhofer CBP supplies lignin for biobased materials

Fraunhofer CBP Press release / July 10, 2018

Using ultrapure lignin from the lignocellulosic biorefinery at the Fraunhofer Center for Chemical-Biotechnological Processes CBP in Leuna, researchers at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (TU HH) have produced lignin-containing aerogels and processed high-porosity insulating boards with excellent insulation properties. The lignin was recovered from beech residual wood at the Fraunhofer CBP using the Organosolv process.
